THE BIRTH OF ROCK AND ROLL presents an unusual photographic tour of the dawning of the rock and roll impulse. In dance, in church, in couples drinking and cavorting, in music played and concerts attended, created on the spot, and enjoyed within a community. In sex and seduction, embracing the body as creator and responder to rhythm. These were the currents I was working with as I put Jim Linderman’s collection of photographs together into this wonderful volume. It was a treat to work on from the start.
