A SONG! A SONG! was commissioned by Jon Sueda as part of “All Possible Futures,” an exhibition Sueda designed and curated for San Francisco’s SOMArts Gallery. The collage measures 10’3″ tall x 7’6″ wide and is composed of digital photo prints adhered with pushpins to a free-standing wall inside the gallery. All the photographs were created in-camera using ordinary materials stockpiled in my studio: glass, paper, plastic, and so on. Up to this point, my photo work had been confined to my own studio walls or created exclusively for design projects. This is the first time I had created a photo-based installation for the public, which I built and composed on-site.
